waterThe landslide in Zone 7, Upper Villa Candida, Brgy. Bulua, Cagayan de Oro City on August 23, 2008, completely damaged one house owned by Ms. Charlene Lesio and partially damaged another. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

Assessment conducted by MGB-10 geologists revealed that there are approximately 30 residences located along this very steep slope in the vicinity of the landslide affected area. bulua landslide2Slope gradient along this side of the hill reach up to 70° in angle.

A tunnel was also noted at the base of the hill, adjacent to the landslide area. Local residents say that this tunnel connects to an opening located at the top of the hill.

In the other side of the hill, along the boundary of Villa Candida Subdivision, a vertical cut was also noted along Cherry Street. Evidences of slope failures were also observed within this southwestern side which is apparent from the observed old landslide deposits.

These cliff areas also exhibit unmistakable signs of slope failures.

Considering the unstable ground conditions along the slope and near the edges of the cliff, it is strongly recommended the residents (approximately 30 households) living in these high risk areas be relocated to a much stable location to avert disaster.
