Regional Director Rex S. Monsanto addressing the DENR-X community on the occasion of “National Disaster Resilience Month” during the Monday convocation hosted by MGB-X on July 17, 2017

THE MONTH OF JULY USED TO BE OBSERVED AS THE NATIONAL DISASTER CONSCIOUSNESS MONTH.

PRESIDENT RODRIGO DUTERTE ISSUED EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 29 ON JUNE 28, 2017 RENAMING THE NATIONAL DISASTER CONSCIOUSNESS MONTH TO NATIONAL DISASTER RESILIENCE MONTH AND SHIFTING ITS FOCUS FROM DISASTER AWARENESS BUILDING TO DISASTER RESILIENCE.

DISASTER RESILIENCE PERTAINS TO THE ABILITY OF INDIVIDUALS, COMMUNITIES, ORGANIZATIONS, AND STATES TO ADAPT TO AND RECOVER FROM THE EFFECTS OF HAZARDS AND DISASTERS THROUGH EFFECTIVE RISK MANAGEMENT.

THE NATIONAL DISASTER RISK REDUCTION AND MANAGEMENT FRAMEWORK ENVISIONS “SAFER, ADAPTIVE AND DISASTER-RESILIENT FILIPINO COMMUNITIES TOWARDS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT” AND CONVEYS A PARADIGM SHIFT FROM A REACTIVE TO A PROACTIVE APPROACH TO INCREASE PEOPLE’S RESILIENCE AND DECREASE THEIR VULNERABILITIES.

THIS YEAR’S NATIONAL DISASTER RESILIENCE MONTH HAS FOR ITS THEME, “4Ks: KAMALAYAN SA KAHANDAAN, KATUMBAS AY KALIGTASAN”.
