TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING SIGNAL: #1 (30-60kph expected in 36 hrs) affecting Dinagat Islands, Camiguin, Compostela Valley, Davao Oriental, Davao del Norte, Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Bukidnon, northern portion of Zamboanga del Norte. and northern portion of Zamboanga del Sur.

At 4:00 PM today, the center of Tropical Storm “BASYANG” was estimated based on all available data at 435 km East Southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur (07.3 °N, 130.1 °E) with Maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph, Forecast to move West Northwest at 23 kph.

  • Scattered to widespread moderate to heavy rains will prevail in the next 24 hours over Visayas, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula and the provinces of Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Compostela Valley, North Cotabato, Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur. Residents of these areas must continue monitoring for updates, take precautionary measures against possible flooding and landslides, and coordinate with their respective local disaster risk reduction and management offices.
  • Expected to make landfall in Caraga Region tomorrow morning or afternoon (February 13).
  • Sea travel remains risky over the seaboards of areas under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal (TCWS), the seaboard of Northern Luzon, and the eastern seaboards of Central Luzon, Southern Luzon and Eastern Visayas due to the approaching Tropical Storm and the surge of the Northeast Monsoon.
  • Possible raising of TCWS #1 over Aklan, Capiz, Antique, Zamboanga Sibugay and the rest of Zamboanga del Norte and of Zamboanga del Sur in the next bulletin.

    The Provincial, City, and Municipal Governments are hereby advised to take precautionary measures in view of the Tropical Storm.  This weather disturbance could have possible adverse impact on the local population, on health, on public and private infrastructure, on the economy.

    The Provincial/City/Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils and the general public are advised to be prepared in the event of the occurrence of landslides and floods.  The P/C/MDRRMCs are advised to be vigilant and to take precautionary measures.

    The Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committees (BDRRMCs) are advised to coordinate with their City/Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils to plan for any emergency, including identification of safe and suitable relocation sites and/or evacuation centers.  These should not be located in landslide-/flood-/hazard-prone areas.
