All too often, technical report writing is loaded with unintelligible jargons, graphs and charts making it incomprehensible to most readers.  Sometimes reports fail to convey its real message either for the lack or overload of words.  Hence, a two-day seminar workshop on Technical Report Writing was conducted last May 24-25, 2018 at the VIP Hotel this city and was participated in by both non-technical and technical personnel of the Regional Office.

The two-day workshop provides learners with the knowledge to make professional writing more direct, informative, and concise for intended audiences.  Salvador C. dela Peña, Ph.D, Chairperson of the Department of Languages, Literature and Performing Arts of Liceo de Cagayan University provided scholarly inputs highlighting grammar correctness. The Provincial, City, and Municipal Governments are hereby advised to take precautionary measures in view of the Low Pressure Area (LPA).  This weather disturbance could have possible adverse impact on the local population, on health, on public and private infrastructure, on the economy.

The Provincial/City/Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils and the general public are advised to be prepared in the event of the occurrence of landslides and floods.  The P/C/MDRRMCs are advised to be vigilant and to take precautionary measures.
The Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committees (BDRRMCs) are advised to coordinate with their City/Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils to plan for any emergency, including identification of safe and suitable relocation sites and/or evacuation centers.  These should not be located in landslide-/flood-/hazard-prone areas.

In line with the National Geohazard Mapping and Assessment Program of the DENR-MGB, the program continued, this time, in 2015, with the conduct of the Vulnerability and Risk Assessment (VRA).  Two VRAs were conducted in 2015 and twelve in 2016.  In 2018, the results of the assessment conducted in 2015 and 2016 are to presented to the cities/municipalities concerned.

The objective of the VRA is to provide additional technical information to the LGU for a risk-sensitive land use and development as well as disaster risk reduction and management planning.  The assessment takes into account the area’s susceptibility to rain-induced landslide and flooding.  Continue reading »

April 16 to highlight the celebration of Earth Month, with the coming Sunday, 2018. April 22, as Earth Day Celebration.

Participating Mines and Geosciences Bureau personnel from the different regions to the Seminar-Workshop on ITAPS, SWEEPS and Disclosure of Public Information for 8888 Hotline Focal Persons

To ensure effective implementation of 8888 Hotline, a seminar-workshop on Integrity, Transparency and Accountability in Public Service (ITAPS), Efficient and Effective Public Service (SWEEPS), Freedom on Information and Data Privacy Protocol for 8888 Hotline Focal Persons,    a series of seminar-workshops (first batch) was conducted on April 17-19, 2018. The venue was at the Hive Hotel in  Quezon City and  was attended by 8888 Focal persons from the different DENR Regional Offices and line Bureaus like the Mines and Geosciences Bureau and the Environmental Management Bureau.

The white cartolina represents a sample charter, part of the Seminar-Workshop was the preparation of each Agency’s charter given a limited time of five (5) minutes by the speaker from the Office of the Ombudsman Manila.

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Region X joined Cagayan de Oro City and the entire nation in the observance of the 76th Araw ng Kagitingan held at the Divisoria Park in Cagayan de Oro City on 2018. April 9.  The commemoration was led by Cagayan de Oro City Mayor, Hon. Oscar S. The Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental invited officials and representatives  from the DENR regional, PENRO, and CENRO offices; from PAGASA-Mindanao; and from the City Government of El Salvador, Misamis Oriental, to a dialogue to discuss pending requirements on the proposed construction of the DOST-PAGASA Planetarium at Barangay Molugan, El Salvador City, Misamis Oriental.  Misamis Oriental Governor, Hon. Yevgeny Vincente B. Emano, presided over the meeting.   El Salvador City Mayor, Hon. Edgar S. Lignes, and barangay officials of Molugan, were in attendance.  The dialogue was held at the Provincial Training Center, Capitol Compound, Cagayan de Oro City on 2018. March 16.  MGB-X was represented by Osin A. Sinsuat, Jr., Chief Geologist, and Atty. Christine Uy-Lu, Legal Officer-III.

Regional Director Rex S. Monsanto finally signed and approved the 4th phase Social Development and Management Program (SDMP) allocation for the next five years amounting to PhP33, 756,077.66 Millions funded from the projected operating costs of Republic Cement Iligan, Inc. and Republic Cement Mindanao, Inc. Both companies are operating under legitimate Mineral Production Sharing.

Since the first 5-year SDMP implementation, SDMP milestone are translated into livelihoods, infrastructures like water Systems Development, flood control, electrification, schools, Daycare and Health Centers were built. Medicines and vitamins were provided in their respective Barangay Health Centers and College scholars who successfully finished courses and graduated through the SDMP Scholarship Program.

For out-of-school-youth, skills training   were conducted to help them develop and enhance their capabilities.  These trainings in partnership with Technical Educational and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) include Shielded Metal Arc Welding, electrical installations and scaffolding erection.
