Regional Director Rex S. Monsanto finally signed and approved the 4th phase Social Development and Management Program (SDMP) allocation for the next five years amounting to PhP33, 756,077.66 Millions funded from the projected operating costs of Republic Cement Iligan, Inc. and Republic Cement Mindanao, Inc. Both companies are operating under legitimate Mineral Production Sharing.

Since the first 5-year SDMP implementation, SDMP milestone are translated into livelihoods, infrastructures like water Systems Development, flood control, electrification, schools, Daycare and Health Centers were built. Medicines and vitamins were provided in their respective Barangay Health Centers and College scholars who successfully finished courses and graduated through the SDMP Scholarship Program.

For out-of-school-youth, skills training   were conducted to help them develop and enhance their capabilities.  These trainings in partnership with Technical Educational and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) include Shielded Metal Arc Welding, electrical installations and scaffolding erection.

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau under the Department of Environment and Natural Resources is celebrating its 118th Anniversary this month of November anchored on the theme “MGB: Working in Partnership with Communities towards Minerals Development”. Major activities conducted for the Anniversary were held in Baguio City, which is home to seven large scale gold and copper mining operations.

MGB-10 Regional Office had its local celebration last November 28, 2016 which started with a Holy Mass officiated by Msgr. Rey Manuel S. Monsanto, SSJV, JCD, HP at the MGB-10 Conference Room. Part of the celebration was the VAWC (Violence Against Women) Orientation with Atty. Jerlie P. Luis-Requerme, Presiding Judge, 3rd MCTC Impasugong, Sumilao, Buikdnon being the speaker.

The highlight of the 118th celebration was the recognition of MGB -10 staff who have served from 15 to 35 years of dedicated public service. Awardees were given a Plaque of Recognition and a token. Continue reading »

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau, Region 10 called for a Technical Forum at the Mines and Geosciences Bureau, Region 10 Office to the different sand and gravel and crushing plant operators in Brgy. Sta. Ana, Municipality of Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental last April 26, 2016. The forum was also attended by the staff of the Environment and Natural Resources Office,  Misamis Oriental headed by the ENRO, Mr. Jose Nick Tilos. Continue reading »

Last January 26. 2016, Mr. Renan Lerongan, of legal age and a resident of Brgy. Pig-sag-an Cagayan de Oro City pleaded guilty to the charge of Illegal Exploration, before Hon. Marites Filomena B. Rana-Bernales, Presiding Judge of RTC 39, Cagayan de  Oro City.

To recall, On May 11, 2015, the Task Force Kinaiyahan conducted monitoring against illegal mining and logging along the stretch of Iponan River and caught the accused conducting mining operation without any permit, which is in violation of R.A. 7942 or the Philippine Mining Act of 1995. The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional office No. 10 along with the Provincial Agriculture Office of Camiguin conducted a consultation/ Forum with the extractors/vendors and suppliers of sand and gravel and other construction  materials of Mambajao, Camiguin on Wednesday, January 26, 2016. The consultation was in response to the letter dated January 11, 2016 signed by Mr. Renero G. Torion,  Provincial Agriculturist and member of the Provincial Mining Regulatory Board (PMRB), duly concurred by Camiguin Provincial Governor,  Hon. Jurdin Jesus M. Romualdo requesting for the presence of MGB        -10  staff to discuss  Quarry Resources extraction policies/rules and related extraction fees including the payment of excise tax.

The consultation was aimed to orient the participants on the policies, rules and regulations relative to quarry resources extraction. Furthermore, to enhance the sand and gravel and other quarry resources operations in the Province of Camiguin. Continue reading »

Pursuant to Sec. 136-B of DAO 2010-12, the Mines & Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. 10 facilitated a technical conference on the submitted 2016 ASDMP of Holcim Philippines Manufacturing Corporation at the Holcim Training Center, Sitio Mapalad, Brgy. Dalipuga, Iligan City on January 26, 2016.

The technical conference was intended to take a final review and evaluation on the said program. Continue reading »

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau-Regional Office No. 10 was invited as speaker by the Office of the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division (RIDMD), during the conduct of 45-Day Investigation Officer’s Basic Course (IOBC) Training last January 8, 2016 held at the RHQ Multi-Purpose Hall, Camp Vicente Alagar, Lapasan, Cagayan de Oro City.

The Training was geared towards improving the knowledge and skills of the PNP Police Commissioned Officers (PCOs) with the rank from Police Inspector (PINSPI) to Police Superintendent (PSUPT) and further enhanced their understanding on the laws relative to the preservation and protection of the environment.

As requested, Engr. Manuel L. Candia, MGB-10, Chief of the Mine Management Division conducted a power point presentation on the salient features of  R.A. 7942 or the Philippine Mining Act of 1995  with emphasis on prohibited acts and penalties and areas open and closed  to mining applications. R.A. 7076 or the People’s Small-Scale Mining Act of 1991 and E.O. 79 were partly discussed.

MGB-10 Information officer-ll, Ms. Cecilia C. Tan joined Engr. Manuel L. Candia during the open forum in addressing queries, issues and concerns relative to the lecture.
