SYNOPSIS: As of 3:00 am  today, the Low Pressure Area    (LPA) embedded  in the  Intertropical Convergence Zone(ITCZ) was estimated, based on all available data, at 795 km East of  Surigao  City, Surigao del Norte  (10.0 ºN, 132.7 ºE).

The Provincial, City, and Municipal Governments are hereby advised to take precautionary measures in view of the Low Pressure Area (LPA).  This weather disturbance could have possible adverse impact on the local population, on health, on public and private infrastructure, on the economy.

The Provincial/City/Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils and the general public are advised to be prepared in the event of the occurrence of landslides and floods.  The P/C/MDRRMCs are advised to be vigilant and to take precautionary measures.
The Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committees (BDRRMCs) are advised to coordinate with their City/Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils to plan for any emergency, including identification of safe and suitable relocation sites and/or evacuation centers.  These should not be located in landslide-/flood-/hazard-prone areas.

In line with the National Geohazard Mapping and Assessment Program of the DENR-MGB, the program continued, this time, in 2015, with the conduct of the Vulnerability and Risk Assessment (VRA).  Two VRAs were conducted in 2015 and twelve in 2016.  In 2018, the results of the assessment conducted in 2015 and 2016 are to presented to the cities/municipalities concerned.

The objective of the VRA is to provide additional technical information to the LGU for a risk-sensitive land use and development as well as disaster risk reduction and management planning.  The assessment takes into account the area’s susceptibility to rain-induced landslide and flooding.  Continue reading »

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau, Region X took the occasion as host of the weekly flag-raising ceremony and Monday convocation at the DENR-X compound in Cagayan de Oro City on 2018. April 16 to highlight the celebration of Earth Month, with the coming Sunday, 2018. April 22, as Earth Day Celebration.

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Region X joined Cagayan de Oro City and the entire nation in the observance of the 76th Araw ng Kagitingan held at the Divisoria Park in Cagayan de Oro City on 2018. April 9.  The commemoration was led by Cagayan de Oro City Mayor, Hon. Oscar S. Moreno.  In his message, Mayor Moreno exhorted today’s leaders to leave behind a legacy of service for the future generations. Continue reading »

The Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental invited officials and representatives  from the DENR regional, PENRO, and CENRO offices; from PAGASA-Mindanao; and from the City Government of El Salvador, Misamis Oriental, to a dialogue to discuss pending requirements on the proposed construction of the DOST-PAGASA Planetarium at Barangay Molugan, El Salvador City, Misamis Oriental.  Misamis Oriental Governor, Hon. Yevgeny Vincente B. Emano, presided over the meeting.   El Salvador City Mayor, Hon. Edgar S. Lignes, and barangay officials of Molugan, were in attendance.  The dialogue was held at the Provincial Training Center, Capitol Compound, Cagayan de Oro City on 2018. March 16.  MGB-X was represented by Osin A. Sinsuat, Jr., Chief Geologist, and Atty. Christine Uy-Lu, Legal Officer-III.

MGB-X was invited as resource speaker on the “Geohazard Map of Northern Mindanao” during the First Quarterly Meeting of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council – Disaster Preparedness Committee chaired by DILG-X and held in Cagayan de Oro City on 2018. February 20.  Chief Geologist Osin Sinsuat, Jr. gave the presentation.

IT Specialist Ramon S. Hong, Jr. presented the “Downloading of the 1:10,000 Scale Landslide and Flood Susceptibility Maps”.

Participants included, aside from the DILG and MGB, from PAGASA, PHIVOLCS, OCD, Army, PNP, BFP, NEDA, DA, DPWH.

The forum came up with a proposed Protocol on the integration of experiences and actual practices shared by members of the Disaster Preparedness Committee.

At 1:00 PM today, the center of Tropical Depression “BASYANG” was estimated based on all available data at 60 km South of Maasin City, Southern leyte (09.6 °N, 124.9 °E) with Maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph, Forecast to move West Northwest at 27 kph.
