TYPHOON “OMPONG” INCREASES ITS THREAT OVER NORTHERN LUZON AS IT MOVES CLOSER.

Occasional rains and gusty winds will be experienced over the areas under TCWS #1. Stormy weather is expected over areas under TCWS#2 and TCWS#3. TY “OMPONG” is expected to make landfall in Cagayan-Isabela area tomorrow early morning (Saturday,15 September). The Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) enhanced by the typhoon will bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains over Visayas while scattered light to moderate to at times heavy rains over Palawan, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao and Caraga. Residents in these areas, especially those living near river channels, in low-lying areas and in mountainous areas, are advised to take appropriate actions against possible flooding and landslides, coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices, and to continue monitoring for updates. Fisherfolks and those with small seacrafts are advised not to venture out over the seaboards of areas with TCWS and the eastern seaboards of Visayas and of Mindanao. Continue reading »

TYPHOON “OMPONG” HAS SLIGHTLY SLOWED DOWN AS IT CONTINUES TO MOVE WESTWARD OVER THE PHILIPPINE SEA.

Typhoon “Ompong” continues to threaten Northern Luzon. Occasional rains and gusty winds will be experienced over the areas under TCWS #1. TY “OMPONG” is expected to make landfall in the northern Cagayan on Saturday morning (September 15). Fisherfolks and those with small seacrafts are advised not to venture out over the seaboards of areas under TCWS #1, the northern seaboard of Northern Luzon and the eastern seaboards of Visayas and of Mindanao. ISSUED AT: 5:00 PM, 12 September 2018

TYPHOON MANGKHUT HAS ENTERED THE PHILIPPINE AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY AND WAS NAMED “OMPONG”.

Typhoon OMPONG entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) at 3:00 PM this afternoon. The typhoon continues to threaten Northern Luzon. The province of Catanduanes will experience the peripheral effects of OMPONG within the next 36 hours, bringing occasional rains and gusty winds. The typhoon may reach a peak intensity of 220 / 270 kph (max/gust) tomorrow (September 13). TY OMPONG is expected to make landfall in the northern tip of Cagayan on Saturday (September 15). TCWS #1 may be raised in provinces of Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur tomorrow morning (September 13). Continue reading »

Osin A. Sinsuat, Jr., Chief Geologist, MGB-X, talks on Understanding Geo-hazards in the LGU

MGB-X was invited as Resource Speaker on Understanding Geo-hazards in the LGU during the Training-Workshop on the Enhanced Local Climate Change Action Plan (LCCAP) for Pilot LGUs Cum Coaches Training.  The training-workshop was organized by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) – X in coordination with the Local Government Academy (LGA).    Participants from pilot local government units included the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officers (PDRRMOs) of the 5 provinces of the region; and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officers (MDRRMOs), the Municipal Planning and Development Coordinators (MPDCs), and the Municipal Local Government Operations Officers (MLGOOs) of 20 municipal government units, including, Talakag, Bukidnon; Balingoan, Initao, Lugait, Medina, Naawan, Opol, Salay, and Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental;  Sagay, Guinsiliban, and Mambajao, Camiguin; Jimenez, Sinacaban, Sapang Dalaga, Aloran, and Plaridel, Misamis Occidental; and Bacolod, Baroy, and Tubod, Lanao del Norte.  The activity was held on 2018. September 5 to 7 at the Dynasty Court Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City.

The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council-X held the National Disaster Resilience Month 2018 Culmination Program and Gawad KALASAG Awarding Ceremony at the Grand Caprice Restaurant, Cagayan de Oro City on 2018. July 31.  Cagayan de Oro City Mayor, Hon. Oscar S. Moreno, was the guest of honor.

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau, Region X received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council-X during the occasion.

Regional Director Rex Monsanto and his staff – Chief Geologist Osin Sinsuat, Jr., Chief Administrative Officer Jerome Ventic, and Planning Officer Gay Callanta participated in the two-day Conference and Planning Workshop for the Sub-Committee on Land Resource Management’s Approved Programs, Projects and Activities under Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM) held in Cagayan de Oro City on 2018. June 5 and 6.  The activity was chaired by DENR Assistant Secretary for Field Operations – Mindanao Atty. Michelle Go.  Military officials were also in attendance.  Continue reading »

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. X joined the Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on 2018. June 21.  The NSED was organized by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

The drill started at 2 o’clock in the afternoon.  Participants performed the duck, cover and hold right after hearing a 60-second siren.  After the siren, the participants proceeded to the designated evacuation center.

The 2nd quarter NSED has the objective to test the community preparedness efforts, synergize and synchronize efforts towards supporting the effective implementation of both the National and Regional Disaster Response Plan.
