Aptly said by an anonymous author which describes the quest of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. X to become an ISO 9001:2015 certified regional office.

Exactly forty-one (41) days from receiving the first nod of NQA Philippines, Inc., the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. X again was rewarded with a thumb up for the efforts exerted to becoming a BS EN ISO 9001:2015 Certified Regional Office. With only Observation for Improvements (OFIs), no minor nor major non-conformance, the Regional Office is anticipating for its ISO 9001:2015 (QMS) UKAS Accreditation. Continue reading »

Dating back during the Spanish regime, the Bureau was then known as the Inspeccion General de Minas, in-charge of the administration and disposition of minerals and mineral lands in the country. Since then, it has gone thru various reorganization with name changes from Departamento de Fomento or Department of Public Welfare under the Philippine Revolutionary Republic to Bureau of Mines during the Philippine Commonwealth and then again renamed as Bureau of Mines and Geosciences further making it more responsive to its varied functions. After passing through a deep selection process, four (4) MGB-X personnel finally rose from the ranks and received the promotion they so anticipated. Ms. Lea Therese N. Bondad and Ms. Daphne Niccole G. Galero were promoted to the position of Supervising Geologist complementing the supervisory personnel in the Geosciences Division. Engr. Janice B. Furog was elevated to the position of Engineer III while Ms. Mercedes T. Cuerquis got the Administrative Officer III post which she has been designated in an acting capacity as Cashier. Members of the Mindanao Association of Mining Engineers, Inc. converged along with geoscientists, environmentalists, academe, policy makers, community and other stakeholders in Davao City during the 24th Annual Mining Symposium and Exhibits held at the SMX Convention Center, SM Lanang Premier on June 22-24, 2017.

This year’s’ Symposium which is anchored on the theme ‘”Equitable, Responsible Utilization of Mineral Resources under a Federal Republic State” with emphasis on Responsible Mining has lined up activities patterned for a three-day event.

MAEM President, Engr. Alexis M. Baligod stated that the government is enhancing the path of sustainable  peace and a protected environment defined  in this year’s symposium of the topics to be presented,  bringing  the benefits of a strong mining industry for every Filipino under a Federal State of governance. The Grand Entrance of the League of Corporate Foundations, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) EXPO with the theme “Disrupting for Social Good “at the Glorietta 2 Palm Drive Activity Center and Glorietta 3 Activity Center, Makati City.

The League of Corporate Foundations-Corporate Social Responsibility Expo Conference was conducted last July 19, 2017 anchored on the theme “Disrupting for Social Good”.

The Expo Conference was done mostly on a plenary with interactive questions and answers.

It mainly focused on the different levels of disruptions and encouraged conversation among experts, specialized organizations and other players in the developmental   field on whether the change that has been in effect has reacted profound impact.

The keynote message of the Expo Conference theme”, Are you fir for the future?  Gobal Trend Towards Integrated Value” was delivered by Dr. Wayne Visser, Founder Director of Kaleidoscope Futures and CSR International, UK.  On his message, he emphasized that today’s disruptive environment is reinventing new business,   and how its workforce respond to shifts in preferences and expectations of their stakeholders. He further said that leaders of every industry should know how to respond and keep pace with change; behind every change is an opportunity.

The second day was the CSR EXPO showcasing the successful social development programs and services implemented by giant corporate companies under the League of Corporate Foundations for their identified beneficiaries.

It was observed during the EXPO, that the exercise of the Corporate Social Responsibility is bounded on a common goal of delivering social programs and services to provide socio- economic upliftment , and in a way a fight against poverty in certain communities.

For extractive Industry like Mining, CSR is implemented thru the Social Development and Management program (SDMP) funded from the 1.5 percent of the total project cost of every large scale  mining companies, anchored on pillars like livelihood (core pillar), health, education,  infrastructure and program assistance  relative to socio-cultural values .
