“Total quality management is a journey, not a destination”

Aptly said by an anonymous author which describes the quest of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. X to become an ISO 9001:2015 certified regional office.

Exactly forty-one (41) days from receiving the first nod of NQA Philippines, Inc., the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. X again was rewarded with a thumb up for the efforts exerted to becoming a BS EN ISO 9001:2015 Certified Regional Office. With only Observation for Improvements (OFIs), no minor nor major non-conformance, the Regional Office is anticipating for its ISO 9001:2015 (QMS) UKAS Accreditation. Continue reading »

“Kulturang Pinoy… Kulturang MGB 119 Taon Kapit-bisig Tungo sa Responsableng Pagmimina” banners this year’s founding anniversary of the Bureau.

Dating back during the Spanish regime, the Bureau was then known as the Inspeccion General de Minas, in-charge of the administration and disposition of minerals and mineral lands in the country. Since then, it has gone thru various reorganization with name changes from Departamento de Fomento or Department of Public Welfare under the Philippine Revolutionary Republic to Bureau of Mines during the Philippine Commonwealth and then again renamed as Bureau of Mines and Geosciences further making it more responsive to its varied functions. The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council-X / Office of Civil Defense-X conducted a series of 3-day Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Trainings for the Public Sector.  MGB-X was requested as Resource Person on, “Geologic Hazards: Landslide and Subsidence” on the following schedules for Public Sector Employees, for Department of Education Divisions: on September 07, 2017: for the Department of Education Division of Camiguin, on September 14, 2017: for the DepEd Division of Misamis Occidental and on September 21, 2017: for the Department of Education Division of Iligan City. The Coordinating Committee for Geoscience Programmes in East and Southeast Asia (CCOP) held its 53rd Annual Session in Cebu City on 16-19 October 2017 in Cebu City.  The Coordinating Committee for Geoscience Programmes in East and Southeast Asia (CCOP) is an intergovernmental organization whose mission is to facilitate and coordinate the implementation of applied geoscience programmes in East and Southeast Asia in order to contribute to economic development and the improvement of the quality of life in the region.  CCOP has fourteen member-countries from the region and fourteen cooperating countries worldwide.  CCOP promotes capacity building, technology transfer, exchange of information and institutional linkages for sustainable resource development, management of geo-information, geo-hazard mitigation and protection of the environment. After passing through a deep selection process, four (4) MGB-X personnel finally rose from the ranks and received the promotion they so anticipated. Ms. Lea Therese N. Bondad and Ms. Daphne Niccole G. Galero were promoted to the position of Supervising Geologist complementing the supervisory personnel in the Geosciences Division. Engr. Janice B. Furog was elevated to the position of Engineer III while Ms. Mercedes T. Cuerquis got the Administrative Officer III post which she has been designated in an acting capacity as Cashier. Chief Geologist Osin Sinsuat, Jr. served as a panelist during the project proposal presentation by undergraduate students of Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan College of Engineering Civil Engineering Department.  The project proposal presentation was on the Slope Stability Analysis of Carmen Hill, Cagayan de Oro City.  Mr. Sinsuat was also invited to be a panelist in the project proposal presentation on the Liquefaction Potential Map of Cagayan de Oro City.  The presentations were held at the Engineering Conference Room of Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan, Cagayan de Oro City on August 23, 2017.

The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council – X held the culmination program for the recent observance of National Disaster Resilience Month and the Gawad KALASAG awarding ceremony at The Mallberry Suites Business Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City on August 10, 2017.  Several local chief executives were present, including Cagayan de Oro City Mayor, Hon. Oscar S. Moreno.

Provincial, city, municipal, and barangay local disaster risk reduction and management officers and representatives of various institutions were on hand to receive their Gawad KALASAG awards from RDRRMC-X officials led by RDRRMC-X Chairperson and Office of Civil Defense-X Regional Director Liza Mazo.
