RD Rex S. Monsanto administered the swearing in to office of newly promoted personnel, from left: Ms. Mercedes T. Cuerquis, Administrative Officer III (Cashier); Engr. Janice B. Furog, Engineer III; Ms. Lea Therese N. Bondad, Supervising Geologist; Ms. Daphne Niccole G. Galero, Supervising Geologist; and Engr. Gaudencio L. Paulma, Jr., Engineer IV.

After passing through a deep selection process, four (4) MGB-X personnel finally rose from the ranks and received the promotion they so anticipated. Ms. Lea Therese N. Bondad and Ms. Daphne Niccole G. Galero were promoted to the position of Supervising Geologist complementing the supervisory personnel in the Geosciences Division. Engr. Janice B. Furog was elevated to the position of Engineer III while Ms. Mercedes T. Cuerquis got the Administrative Officer III post which she has been designated in an acting capacity as Cashier. Chief Geologist Osin Sinsuat, Jr. served as a panelist during the project proposal presentation by undergraduate students of Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan College of Engineering Civil Engineering Department.  The project proposal presentation was on the Slope Stability Analysis of Carmen Hill, Cagayan de Oro City.  Mr. Sinsuat was also invited to be a panelist in the project proposal presentation on the Liquefaction Potential Map of Cagayan de Oro City.  The presentations were held at the Engineering Conference Room of Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan, Cagayan de Oro City on August 23, 2017.

The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council – X held the culmination program for the recent observance of National Disaster Resilience Month and the Gawad KALASAG awarding ceremony at The Mallberry Suites Business Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City on August 10, 2017.  Several local chief executives were present, including Cagayan de Oro City Mayor, Hon. Oscar S. Moreno.

Provincial, city, municipal, and barangay local disaster risk reduction and management officers and representatives of various institutions were on hand to receive their Gawad KALASAG awards from RDRRMC-X officials led by RDRRMC-X Chairperson and Office of Civil Defense-X Regional Director Liza Mazo. Members of the Mindanao Association of Mining Engineers, Inc. converged along with geoscientists, environmentalists, academe, policy makers, community and other stakeholders in Davao City during the 24th Annual Mining Symposium and Exhibits held at the SMX Convention Center, SM Lanang Premier on June 22-24, 2017.

This year’s’ Symposium which is anchored on the theme ‘”Equitable, Responsible Utilization of Mineral Resources under a Federal Republic State” with emphasis on Responsible Mining has lined up activities patterned for a three-day event.

MAEM President, Engr. Alexis M. Baligod stated that the government is enhancing the path of sustainable  peace and a protected environment defined  in this year’s symposium of the topics to be presented,  bringing  the benefits of a strong mining industry for every Filipino under a Federal State of governance. The Grand Entrance of the League of Corporate Foundations, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) EXPO with the theme “Disrupting for Social Good “at the Glorietta 2 Palm Drive Activity Center and Glorietta 3 Activity Center, Makati City.

MGB-X Information officer ll, Cecilia C. Tan and Community Affairs Officer ll Virginia R. Verdejo along with representatives from Holcim Resources Development Corporation and Republic Cement Iligan, Inc. attended the League of Corporate Foundations, Corporate Social Responsibility EXPO on July 19-20, 2017.  On the first day was an EXPO Conference to pump up the 2-day activity held at the Mayuree Grand Ballroom, Dusit Thani Manila Hotel, Makati City.

The second day was the CSR EXPO showcasing the successful social development programs and services implemented by giant corporate companies under the League of Corporate Foundations for their identified beneficiaries. Continue reading »

PRESIDENT RODRIGO DUTERTE ISSUED EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 29 ON JUNE 28, 2017 RENAMING THE NATIONAL DISASTER CONSCIOUSNESS MONTH TO NATIONAL DISASTER RESILIENCE MONTH AND SHIFTING ITS FOCUS FROM DISASTER AWARENESS BUILDING TO DISASTER RESILIENCE.

DISASTER RESILIENCE PERTAINS TO THE ABILITY OF INDIVIDUALS, COMMUNITIES, ORGANIZATIONS, AND STATES TO ADAPT TO AND RECOVER FROM THE EFFECTS OF HAZARDS AND DISASTERS THROUGH EFFECTIVE RISK MANAGEMENT.  Continue reading »

MGB-10 Regional Director Rex S. Monsanto delivers his message to the IEC participants and talks on the National Geohazard Mapping and Assessment Program.

After covering 5 provinces, 9 cities, and 84 municipalities, the DENR-Mines and Geosciences Bureau in Northern Mindanao concluded its IEC (Information, Education, Communication) on Geologic Hazards and Disaster Awareness and Preparedness (Disaster Risk Reduction).  The last leg of the IEC activity was  conducted for the municipal and barangay officias of the municipalities of Baungon, Libona, Malitbog, and Manolo Fortich, all of Bukidnon province.

Participants included the punong barangays, barangay disaster risk reduction and management officers (BDRRMOs), and representatives from every barangay from the women’s, senior citizens, PWD, and youth sectors.  Also invited were the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officers, Municipal Government Operations Officers, Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officers, Municipal Planning and Development Coordinators, Municipal Engineers, and Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officers. The IEC activity was held at the Grand Caprice Restaurant and Convention Center, Limketkai Center, Lapasan, Cagayan de Oro City on May 30, 2017. Continue reading »

Regional Director Rex S. Monsanto stressing some points during the open Forum to the 80 quarry or sand and gravel permittees/applicants

It has been observed that the issuance of Certificate of Environmental Management and Community Relations Record (CEMCRR) to quarry or sand and gravel permit applicants by MGB-10 is experiencing delay because of adverse findings during field verification and/or because of noncompliance by the applicants with applicable existing mining and environmental laws, rules and regulations.

Relative to this and in line with DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu’s thrust to strictly enforce the Philippine Mining Act of1995 (and its Implementing Rules and Regulations) and to implement Responsible Mining, MGB-10 conducted an Orientation/Seminar on the process Flow on the Issuance of CEMCRR, Environmental Protection and Enhancement Program, Work Program, and Comprehensive Validated and Technical Report on June 19, 2017 held at the MGB-10 Conference Room. The activity was attended by 80 quarry or sand and gravel permit applicants from Bukidnon Province. Continue reading »
