Tropical Cyclone: WARNING

ISSUED AT:2:00 PM, 20 November 2018

TROPICAL DEPRESSION “SAMUEL” CONTINUES TO MOVE CLOSER TOWARDS THE SAMAR-LEYTE-DINAGAT AREA.

  • Moderate to heavy rains which may trigger flooding and landslides is expected over Visayas, Dinagat Islands, Siargao island, Sorsogon, Masbate, Albay, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Romblon, and Cuyo group of islands. Residents of these areas, especially those living near or in river channels, low-lying and mountainous areas, are advised to take precautionary measures, coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices, and continue monitoring for updates.
  • Fisherfolks and those with small seacrafts are advised not to venture out over the areas under TCWS #1 and the eastern seaboard of Southern Luzon.
  • “SAMUEL” is expected to make landfall in the area between the southern portion of Eastern Samar and Dinagat Islands tonight. Continue reading »

    TROPICAL DEPRESSION “SAMUEL” HAS MOVED WEST-NORTHWESTWARD WHILE MAINTAINING ITS STRENGTH.

    • Possible raising of Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal (TCWS) No. 1 over Southern Leyte and Eastern Samar.
    • Moderate to heavy rains which may trigger flooding and landslides may prevail over Caraga Region, Davao Oriental, Compostela Valley, Southern Leyte, Bohol, Camiguin and Misamis Oriental. Residents of these areas, especially those living near or in river channels, low-lying and mountainous areas, are advised to take precautionary measures, coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices, and continue monitoring for updates.
    • Fisherfolks and those with small seacrafts are advised not to venture out over the areas under TCWS No. 1 and the eastern seaboards of Visayas and Mindanao. Continue reading »

    Regional Director Rex Monsanto and staff attended the recently-concluded 2018 MGB Annual Technical Forum held at Paraiso Verde, Koronadal City, South Cotabato.

    Twenty-four technical papers and eight policy papers were selected for competition.  In addition, two non-competing papers were presented.  Eight posters were entered.

    Geologist Jenisse Dowell Medel, representing Region X, presented a technical paper on “Report on the Updating of the 1:50,000 Scale Geologic Map of the Burdeos Quadrangle Covering Parts of the Province of Quezon in Region IV-Calabarzon”. Continue reading »

    RD Rex S. Monsanto signs the ISAG Permit, beside him is Mr. Dulatre, the Permit holder.

    October 01, 2018, the day scheduled for the signing of the Industrial Sand and Gravel (ISAG) Permit of Mr. Ferdinand H. Dulatre located at Brgy. Tambagan, Medina, Misamis Oriental. The said permit is denominated as IP-0000012-2018-X containing an area of 5.1340 hectares.

    Mr. Dualtre filed an application for Industrial Sand and Gravel Permit denominated as IPA No. 000028-X to extract, remove and dispose sand and gravel and other loose and unconsolidated materials authorized under Philippine Mining Act of 1995 and its revised IRR for industrial purposes on July 02, 2018 and had completely submitted the mandatory requirements pursuant to Section 74 of DAO No. 2010-21.

    Series of Technical Conference has been conducted with Mr. Dulatre for the evaluation of his submitted documents that further led to the recommendation for the issuance of the ISAG Permit. The ISAG Permit has been signed by the Regional Director, Rex S. Monsanto, CESE and the terms and conditions of which has been signed accepted by Mr. Dulatre.

    On October 9, 2018, the BDRRM Training was conducted for the Victims of Disasters and Calamities of Misamis Oriental

    The Office of Civil Defense-Region X invited MGB-Region X during its continuing Basic Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Trainings for various sectors.  MGB-X was invited as Resource Speaker on Understanding Geological Hazards and on Understanding Landslides and Subsidence Hazards. The BDRRM trainings were held at De Luxe Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City.

    The Urban Poor Sector in Cagayan de Oro City was the invited sector for the BDRRM Training held on October 11, 2018

    Mines and Geosciences Bureau X Regional Director (seated 1st first, right side) discussed to Holcim Resources Development Corporation (HRDC) Manager, Engr. Tito Mendoza (seated second, left side) the Suspension of all Quarry operations in Regions l, lll,   CALABARZON, V, Vll, X Xl and Xlll as per Memorandum letter of MGB Directior Atty. Wilfredo G. Moncano dated September 21, 2018, and   as per order from the DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu.

    The suspension was in view of the recent landslide incidents in Itogon, Benguet and Naga City, Cebu that resulted to the deaths and missing persons, and damages to properties of communities near mining/quarry operations. The secretary has instructed identified MGB Regional Offices to conduct an immediate safety inspection and Geohazard assessment of the communities near the mining/quarry operations under their area of jurisdiction to prevent similar landslide incidents.  Continue reading »

    Osin A. Sinsuat, Jr., Chief Geologist, MGB-X, talks on Understanding Geo-hazards in the LGU

    MGB-X was invited as Resource Speaker on Understanding Geo-hazards in the LGU during the Training-Workshop on the Enhanced Local Climate Change Action Plan (LCCAP) for Pilot LGUs Cum Coaches Training.  The training-workshop was organized by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) – X in coordination with the Local Government Academy (LGA).    Participants from pilot local government units included the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officers (PDRRMOs) of the 5 provinces of the region; and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officers (MDRRMOs), the Municipal Planning and Development Coordinators (MPDCs), and the Municipal Local Government Operations Officers (MLGOOs) of 20 municipal government units, including, Talakag, Bukidnon; Balingoan, Initao, Lugait, Medina, Naawan, Opol, Salay, and Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental;  Sagay, Guinsiliban, and Mambajao, Camiguin; Jimenez, Sinacaban, Sapang Dalaga, Aloran, and Plaridel, Misamis Occidental; and Bacolod, Baroy, and Tubod, Lanao del Norte.  The activity was held on 2018. September 5 to 7 at the Dynasty Court Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City.

    Fifty (50) participants from the  different PENROs/CENROs including  embedded  personnel,  representatives from  DENR , EMB and some MGB X technical personnel   converged during the  Orientation Seminar on the Guidelines in the conduct of Apprehension, Seizure, Confiscation and Dispostion of illegally  sourced Minerals/Mineral Products  and By-Products, Tools, Conveyances and Equipment used provided under MGB MC No. 2018-01 conducted on August 24, 2018 at the  Philtown Hotel and Restaurant .

    The Seminar was aimed to orient the participants on the updated policy guidelines in the apprehension, confiscation and disposition of illegally sourced minerals as provided  under  MGB Memorandum Circular No. 2018-01 and as  presented by Atty. Josephine V. Sescon, OIC, Legal Service Division MGB Central Office, Manila. Continue reading »
