MGB-X Contractual and Job Order employees as they listened to Mr. Arnold Velasco during the orientation-seminar on the salient features of SSS

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. X in cooperation with the Social Security System (SSS) conducted an orientation seminar the salient features of the System on 3 February 2017 at the MGB-X Conference Room.

The said orientation-seminar was mainly for the Contractual and Job Order employees of the Regional Office which by nature of their employment are not covered by the GSIS Law. With the sole purpose to provide them with social security protection, MGB-X Management endeavored to have them covered by SSS. A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) shall be entered into by both offices to proceed with the other phases of membership.

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau under the Department of Environment and Natural Resources is celebrating its 118th Anniversary this month of November anchored on the theme “MGB: Working in Partnership with Communities towards Minerals Development”. Major activities conducted for the Anniversary were held in Baguio City, which is home to seven large scale gold and copper mining operations.

MGB-10 Regional Office had its local celebration last November 28, 2016 which started with a Holy Mass officiated by Msgr. Rey Manuel S. Monsanto, SSJV, JCD, HP at the MGB-10 Conference Room. Part of the celebration was the VAWC (Violence Against Women) Orientation with Atty. Jerlie P. Luis-Requerme, Presiding Judge, 3rd MCTC Impasugong, Sumilao, Buikdnon being the speaker.

The highlight of the 118th celebration was the recognition of MGB -10 staff who have served from 15 to 35 years of dedicated public service. Awardees were given a Plaque of Recognition and a token. Continue reading »

Chief Geologist Osin Sinsuat, Jr. presented a paper entitled, “Bajau Housing and Disaster Risk Reduction” during the 2016 Annual MGB Technical Forum held at the Clark Freeport Zone, Angeles City, Pampanga on November 11-12, 2016.

The paper presented the request by the Psychosocial Association of the Philippines-Cagayan de Oro (PSAP-CDO) to provide housing for the Bajaus in Barangay Bayabas, Cagayan de Oro City and the non-favorable recommendation by the DENR and MGB regional offices and by the MGB Central Office.  The paper proposed for closer coordination and review of policies among the various sectors of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources….for after all, we share a common mission – to save lives, to protect property, to avoid the unnecessary waste of funds, to protect the environment.  The policy in question is the granting of the Certificate of Non-Coverage (CNC). The DENR-Mines and Geosciences Bureau-Region 10 provided the provincial, municipal, and barangay governments of Camiguin their detailed landslide and flood hazard maps.   The maps were received by Honorable Governor Maria Luisa Romualdo and Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer, Felicisimo Gomez, from MGB-10 Chief Geologist Osin Sinsuat, Jr. and Chief Administrative Officer Jerome Ventic at the Office of the Governor, Provincial Capitol in Mambajao, Camiguin on October 20, 2016.

IEC (Information, Education, Communication) on Geologic Hazards and Disaster Awareness and Preparedness (Disaster Risk Reduction) held at the City Gymnasium of Oroquieta, Misamis Occidental on September 27, 2016….

IEC (Information, Education, Communication) on Geologic Hazards and Disaster Awarenes and Preparedness (Disaster Risk Reduction) was conducted for city, municipal and barangay officials and representatives of cities and municipalities of Misamis Occidental.   Participants included the Punong Barangays, the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officers (BDRRMOs), representatives from every barangay from the women’s, senior citizens, PWD, and youth sectors, the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officers (LDRRMOs), the Local Government Operations Officers, the Local Environment and Natural Resources Officers, the Local Planning and Development Coordinators, the Local Engineers, the Local Social Welfare and Development Officers, and the Local Chief Executives or their representatives.  Continue reading »
